Community Projects: 2013

  • Facelift of Lobby at Coastal Academy for Technology & Science (formerly Cape Lookout High School)
On August 3, young men from the Single Marine Program at Camp Lejeune joined board members from Cape Lookout High School and folks from Carteret County Home Builders to clean up the lobby area of the old Morehead School at 1108 Bridges St.
Everyone worked so hard, we were even able to get started on the student areas upstairs.
Lots of people to thank for helping with this huge project (in no particular order):
  • Bill Boulia and Boulia Enterprises for the two days of prep work prior to our Work Day
  • Steve Buck of Jeff Buck Custom Trim for installing the frame around the mural in the lobby
  • Mitch Brazie and Morehead Builders Supply for providing help and materials for the mural frame
  • David A Edwards for supervising the Work Day project and for keeping the colors straight
  • Supply donations and/or discounts were provided by: Jim Henderson of Kinetico - Advanced Water Systems, Williams Hardware, Sherwin-Williams, Poor Richard's Paint Store, Lowe's Home Improvement, Tri-Stanna, and Ace Hardware of Beaufort
  • Food donations were provided by Chick-Fil-A and Lowe's Food Stores

  • Hope Garden at BSESChris Jones created Hope Garden with his brother Jeffrey in mind.
Spearheaded by Croatan High School Senior, Chris Jones (now a graduate), this project created a garden for Special Needs and younger students at Bogue Sound Elementary School. Chris came to us with his intern project and asked for technical advice and some donations.
The goal of this project is to give children a special place that they can not only enjoy but help to create. The 2012-2013 Pre-K classes have helped to plant vegetables and will continue to be the primary care attendants during the 2013-2014 school year as Kindergarteners.
We'd like to thank Brian Deanhardt of Brimco Builders for providing the bed boxes, Jimmy Farrington of Yardworks for providing the planting materials and John Ritchie of Ritchie Commercial Development for spearheading the materials donations as well as providing tomato and squash plants for the Pre-K classes.
This project is ongoing with an additional raised bed (built to wheelchair level) and a vining "teepee" planned to be added over the summer. If you would like to help with this project please contact Bogue Sound Elementary School or the CCHBA office. Immediate needs are for pavers and materials for the large raised bed.
